Digital entrepreneur since 2007 with my first business venture. Now fully focussed on the Chinese market with a keen eye on the digital ecosystems.

Host: Simon, who is he?

Simon de Raadt 西蒙

After visiting Hong Kong in 2005 and China in 2007 it became clear for Simon that China would be the place to live and work. Since then it became an obsession to chase his China Dream and built a career and life in China.

In 2011 he made the jump and has been there ever since. He built up multiple projects and companies related to China Business. Most of his experience is in crossborder trade and crossborder logistics particularly in E-Commerce projects from and to China.

As a big fan of podcasts himself it became an easy step to join the China Business Cast as a host. The main reason to join as a host for this podcast is to learn from other entrepreneurs and business owners, share his experiences and built up a valuable network.

Producer: Laurine, who is she?

Laurine Chamberlin

(aka the Frenchy among the Dutsch!)

Passionate about content, digital marketing and innovation, Laurine started her Chinese journey in 2018 - working for 2 years to help Chinese Tech companies integrate overseas markets, in Shenzhen.

She recently moved to Shanghai to become Communication Leader on the production side of a well-known French retail sport brand.

Apart from her job, she is the Communication Manager for the JEF Shanghai association (Young Professionals/Entrepreneurs organisation) and was also a volunteer member of the local French Tech Community board Hong Kong-Shenzhen.

I grew up in Israel, studied electrical engineering, and worked in large organisations mostly as an engineer and developer. I thought that I didn’t like tech stuff as I didn’t really like my jobs; retrospectively I understand I didn’t do well at large organisations and prefer the life of an entrepreneur making the most influence in a small or my own company.

Even before understanding this I created a few online businesses while having a day job. Among these I had an affiliate marketing business and later while traveling an internet drop shipping business through Amazon.

At the summer of 2007 my brother in law decided his kids need to learn Chinese and I joined them for a 2 month stay in Dalian studying the language.

Returning back to Israel I worked for a few years on some China related businesses which eventually didn’t succeed, but as I had more China connection, my wife and I decided to move to China at the end of 2011.

I decided to open my website Startup Noodle to help other entrepreneurs make the move to China a few months after moving. It’s been running since summer 2012.

I built my company in Beijing, AppInChina, helping to distribute and promote foreign mobile apps in the Chinese market and being very involved in the Beijing startup scene organising the Lean Startup meetup group. I also consult startups and tech companies making their way to China.

Michael Michelini 迈理倪 grew up in NorthEast USA (CT, NJ, NYC) and is a 3rd generation American born with grandparents from Italy, Russia, France, and Canada. He made his first website in 1999 and started selling online in 2003 via eBay and his own e-commerce websites — bar and kitchenware products.

He quit his job working on Wall Street in March 2007 and later that year moved to China to set up a sourcing & logistics office for his own e-commerce business as well as a service for others. His consulting company Shadstone Ltd assists USA & China companies via training and consulting for China business and cross border e-commerce and internet marketing.
